Did you start off this morning with a nice, liesurely Sunday breakfast? After a long week at work, school and play it’s a treat we all deserve. We also know there are millions of hungry children who had nothing to eat today. I know, I know- we can’t save the world or fix everything and I don’t mean to make you feel guilty. Most of us would help if we could, but money is tight and there are so many in need. Well, what if you could just help a few, without moving from the very spot you are in; without spending one penny or a lot of your valuable time?
The advantage of a blog over the newspaper is that if you are reading it, you are already at a computer, on the internet. With one click, you can donate food to the hungry. On the next click you can help fund mammograms for women with no insurance. Then you can fund bowls of food for animal rescue organizations. Next, you can click on free books for children to aid in the fight against illiteracy. Just one more and you can help preserve rainforest habitats. The child health click will give needed vaccinations and medical care around the world. In just two minutes you can help in so many ways, all for free!
If you click on this link, http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces it will take you to the animal rescue page. Just “click to give” food to shelters. At the top of the page, there are tabs that take you to the breast cancer, literacy, rainforest, child health and hunger sites. Click each tab, then click to give and you’re done. After you click to give, the stats will appear at the bottom of each page to show just how much food, books, mammograms, etc. were funded each day. The money comes from sponsors but you never have to click on their ads or buy anything. Just “click to give.”
If you’re like me, you’ll never remember to go back to the website every day. At each of the charity sites, there is a spot for you to sign up for a daily reminder. You only need to sign up for one reminder and when you click on the link each day, (the animal rescue is the one I receive each day) it gives you access to ALL of them. (You will NOT get a bunch of junk mail or spam if you give them your email for reminders- trust me). It’s such a little thing, and you’re at your keyboard anyway. Are you thinking now that you couldn’t POSSIBLY make a difference in the needs of the world??
Young Alice, in “Through the Looking Glass” was talking the White Queen. “There’s no use trying,'” she said, “one can’t believe impossible things.” “I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Belief and hope are precious commodities. If you believe you can make a difference, you will try. If you try, you will succeed and our world will be a better place. You CAN make a difference. Impossible things? Before breakfast today I donated 1.1 cups of food to the hungry, .6 bowls of food to animal shelters, saved 11.4 square feet of rainforest habitat, added to the 11,000 free mammograms given, helped add to the over 2 million children who have received vital healthcare services, and helped get books to kids (over 2 million so far). Imagine if those numbers were multipied by every person at a keyboard at this very moment! Make the impossible, possible.
In less time than it takes to brew a pot of coffee, I gave myself the good feeling of helping in some small way. Even if you choose to pick only ONE click-to-give cause, you can help. It will feel good, I promise. You’ll feel even better if you get someone else to join in. Let me know if you take up this challenge! I would love to know that more people are helping. After all, when it comes to saving our planet and the people (and animals) on it, we’re all in this together!
