Saturday’s fundraiser in Wilson full of family fun and prizes!!

I wrote a column recently about the annual fundraiser for the Andrea Hope LaRock Foundation. Here is an excerpt as a reminder to go down and have some fun for the whole family!!!

The LaRock family is “Helping Little Hearts be Healthy Hearts”

From the broken hearts of parents who lost a child, came a way to keep her memory alive by helping other children. This week’s Spotlight shines on Jason and Christine LaRock.

The LaRock family knows a great deal now about pediatric heart disease, much more than they knew when baby daughter Andrea Hope was diagnosed. Four years ago, little Andrea lost her battler at the age of 17 months, robbing her family of the sunshine that she had brought to their lives. Determined to honor her life and spirit, they formed the Andrea Hope LaRock Foundation.

The Foundation was formed to raise funds to help other children through Buffalo’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital where Andrea had received such special care. The family organized a celebration, complete with a pig roast, which has become an annual event. The first major goal of the Foundation was realized in December 2006, in the form of a brand new parents’ waiting room that was built in the Pediatric ICU wing of Buffalo’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Funds raised at successive events will help the children and families in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hospital and the Dreams From the Heart Camp.

Said Jason, “The parents’ room is a peaceful place for families in the PICU; a place where you can gather your thoughts and gain a perspective on what is happening. You can talk with doctors, contact family and friends and even email loved ones. We continue to work with the Women’s and Children’s Hospital to seek new projects that will enhance and support the children and families of the Pediatric ICU.”

A portion of the monies raised helps to support the Dreams From the Heart Camp, held in Chautauqua County each summer. This camp offers, free of charge, appropriate fun and learning activities for young heart patients including food, lodging, fishing, boating, swimming, horse back riding, a modified Olympics, and much more.

They hope to raise even more money at the upcoming Fifth Annual Pig Roast, called “Helping Little Hearts be Healthy Hearts.” This year’s event has a luau theme and guests are invited to come in their Hawaiian best. Live music will be performed by Rock It, Against All Oddzz, Night Cruise, Step N Time and the Helicopter Pilots. For the children there will be bounce houses, snow cones, cotton candy, arts and crafts and face painting. Adults can enjoy the Chinese auction, silent auction, 50/50 split, raffles and more. There will be a special raffle for a Nintendo Wii System.

The event runs from 2 to 9 p.m. on July 19, with the popular pig roast dinner served at 3:30 p.m. Admission tickets are $20 per adult or $50 for a family donation. Each admission ticket is entered in a drawing for 11 big door prizes, including a  $200 gift certificate to Faery’s Nursery (Ransomville), a $200 gift certificate to Slippery Sinker Bait and Tackle (Olcott), a Bass Fishing Charter with Captain Larry Balch, a $100 gift certificate to Greg’s Pool (Lewiston), a Nintendo DS Lite, one of two Delta Sonic Professional Car Details, one of two Diamond Dinner and Room Packages to Salvatore’s Italian Gardens or one of two Relaxation Packages at the Village Spa (facial, hand & foot treatment). Tickets can be purchased by calling751-9803 or 751-0116
