Clever names for cherished pets!

Veterinary Pet Insurance (VIP) searched through the names of 466,000 insured pets to find the most popular  names of dogs and cats in 2008. They also picked out the oddballs and held a vote to get the top ten.

The popular names for both species were pretty boring, mostly people names like Max, Lucy or Charlie. I was, however, really amused by some of the unusual names people came up with for their pets. My own 16 year-old crazy cat is called “Sneakie Pie’ so I applaud ingenious monikers! Sneakie Pie was named after an author- do you know who??

Do you have a great and original name for your four-footed friend? Please share!

  1. Rich - Clever Dog Names Says:

Being the owner of a dog names website, it always amazes me what owners come up with. Here’s a few I’ve heard…

Dennis: Named after the wife’s ex-husband
Putt-Putt: For a short legged dog
    Pupcake: For a small dog
Laptop: For an affectionate dog whose owner is into computers
    Butter: After a Golden Retriever

People also like to name their dogs after foods they like, (i.e. Sushi) or cars they drive (i.e. Lexus)
